Library Scene: Unreal Engine 5

The Project

This Library scene was created using Unreal Engine 5 and it's new Lumen lighting system.

 

Three friends and I worked on the general layout of the scene by referencing old style libraries from the 1800s.

 

My roles were to create general assets to fill the scene with another person, while the other two created modular assets of the building.

The Process

The team and I set deadlines and tracked the progress of assets using Trello®. This was a way of understanding where the progress of different assets were. 

When creating the different props to populate the scene, I used reference photos from old style libraries and created a mood board to understand how people would use our library in the modern day.

Responsibilities

During the project, I was responsible for creating a list of assets, big and small. Some of these assets include:

  • Large Gathering Table

  • Standing Floor Globe

  • Library Book Cart

  • Open Faced Book

  • 7 Different Book Shelf Variations 

  • Table Lamp

  • Hanging Ceiling Lamp

  • Laptop (closed and open)

  • 2 Variations of Marble Pillars/Column

  • Wall Lights

  • Velvet Barriers

  • Ash Tray

  • Zippo Lighter

  • Other Assets

REflection

This project helped me understand how important communication can be with your team members and how collaboration can help boost creativity. Having others push towards a common goal really helped with motivation and kept me pushing on and creating more assets for the scene. It was great to give and receive feedback with my peers; making sure that everyone produced high quality work. Over all, this scene is one of my proudest achievements so far as a 3d artist.
