Fishy-Business Corporation

The Project

The Fishy-Business Corporation is a clicker/idle game that teaches players about sustainable resources like lab grown/cell-based fish/meats, and environmental protection. The project displays my team leadership skills, planning, game design, 3D modelling, etc.

This is a simple game made over the course of a few weeks worth of time with 3 other designers and programmers.

The Process

I started the design process by thinking of different issues I wanted to research and came across sustainability in foods like lab-grown meats. I used the genre of idle/clicker game as it has a low bar to entry level for players and was accessible to everyone. We sat down as a team to iterate on the different mechanics and inner workings of the game, while still displaying the message we wanted to share with players.

Once the ideation phase was complete, we moved on to constructing and creating our Game Design Document to store all the different mechanics, game rules, and designs for the game. Everyone on the team had assigned tasks to complete. I currently organize all the team meetings, oversee the main development, organizing Trello and Jira, 3D modelling all the assets for the game, and texturing.

REflection

I learned a lot about how the design process of a game can change through the course of development. This could be the result of play testing, contingency and risks, or even just trying to limit the scope of the game. This really reinforced how important scope management is to a project and that every design decision needs to have it in mind.
