Home Bound: Portal 2

The Project

Home Bound is a Portal 2 Level created using BeeMod2 and Hammer++.

Home Bound teaches new players the basics of using a Portal Gun, Repulsion Gel, Storage Cubes, and a new puzzle element, Solid Fizzlers.

The level teaches, tests, and challenges players on the new-found mechanic throughout solving the puzzles and escaping.

The Process

Home Bound was created to display the ideology of Teach, Test, and Challenge.

I used several Level Design Principles to create the level. The most prevalent tools used were leading lines and signage/signifiers to direct players to different areas and for different pieces of the puzzles.

Almost all the exits/doorways were placed on elevated planes to illustrate the importance of the area and to display direction to the player.

Reflection

By using a handful of mechanics from the base game and an extra new mechanic, I made a perfect level for new players. I learned a lot from listening to my play testers and utilizing proper sight lines to inform players. Through this project, I have a deeper understanding and appreciation for well-kept LDD's as it can really help with the building process.

I am proud with how the level turned out, players have commented how much they have enjoyed the level and addressing issues that have been resolved.
