Mac-10 Work Bench: Unreal Engine 4

The Project

This gun model and Unreal Engine scene was a way of learning and practicing my skills in high detail modeling, scene setting, and Unreal Engine Blue Print scripting.

I chose a Mac-10 as it was the first time I tried to 3D model a gun, as the Mac-10 has a somewhat simplistic box like shape.

The Process

I started with gathering several reference images of a Mac-10 to understand all the different pieces, and attachments the were required to construct and model the gun. After modeling all the low poly pieces, I began creating all the high poly variations for texturing. Once both high and low poly were made, all the low poly meshes where unwrapped then grouped together by two mesh ID's to create high detailed textures. After baking and creating the textures, the gun was brought into unreal; creating a weapon attachments bench system with blueprints.

Reflection

In the end, I created a model that I was proud of and got to practice and learn how to use blue print scripting in Unreal Engine. Breaking down the model into 2 mesh IDs was new to me as well, understanding how to properly separate a model for different layers of texturing and customization. Overall this project was a great learning experience.
